Danza e ritmo d'origine spagnola (Andalusia). Si è sviluppato a Cuba nell'ottocento. In origine il ritmo era in 3/4 ed è stato modificato, circa verso la metà dell'ottocento, in un tempo di 4/4. Attualmente è ancora utilizzato in questa versione.
